Jai Das, SAP Ventures
Jai Das spent seven years designing and building software applications as a lead architect, as a product manager and as an entrepreneur before focusing on investing in technology start-ups. He was most recently a director at Agilent Ventures (formerly part of Hewlett-Packard), where he led investments in semiconductor, semiconductor testing and networking systems companies like Infinera Systems and Touchdown Technologies. Prior to working at Agilent Ventures, he was employed at Intel Capital where he was responsible for strategic equity investments in software and data-center system vendors. Das was also a principal with MVC Capital, a Draper Fisher Jurvetson affiliated venture fund where he led investments in software, business services, storage, and data-center systems. Das received his MBA from the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business where he was awarded the George Hay Brown Prize for academic excellence. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Brown University.
Das manages SAP Ventures' investments in GroundWork Open Source, Ignite, MySQL, Selero, Sonoa, and Tealeaf. He is responsible for SAP's investment strategy in India and for evaluating new investment opportunities in Open Source and in platform and infrastructure software that enable next generation SOA and SaaS based applications.
Peter Jackson, Chief Executive Officer
Peter Jackson has a knack for turning fledgling companies instilled with great business model into very profitable market leaders. He has accomplished this several times over during the last 20 years. Known as a mature market disruptor, Peter finds the one thing makes a big difference to the customer and makes that the company's core focus.
Peter joined GroundWork Open Source in January of 2009 because he understood the company's value based on the market potential and already proven disruptive model. GroundWork's foundation, built on it's unique open source project amalgamation strategy and business model matched Peter's profile of a company poised to become the next market leader in an ever-commoditizing IT management sector. Lastly, he was excited about the employee culture and strong customer base plus the great experiences and active involvement that the cofounders contributed to the business.
He's been the chairman, CEO and president of Intraware Inc., the premier provider of on-demand delivery solution since 1996. Keynote Intraware customers included IBM, Adobe, AutoDesk and EMC. Jackson took Intraware public, undergone private funding rounds, grew the revenue to $100MM in sales and services and eventually sold Intraware in January 2009.
Previous to Intraware, Peter was the president and CEO of Dataflex, Inc — a full service systems integrator who had revenues over $400MM and lead the sale to Vanstar. Prior, Peter was the CEO, President and Director of Granite Systems, Inc. which became one of the largest service and product suppliers for HP, Apple, IBM, Compaq and Microsoft.
Peter graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and has won the 1998 Red Herring Entrepreneur of the Year award and has twice been a finalist to the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Deepak Kamra, Canaan Partners
Deepak Kamra has a knack for identifying innovative companies that disrupt the status quo to become leaders in their fields. After an 11-year career growing technology startups into successful global leaders, Deepak joined Canaan in 1991 and is focused on investments in digital media and software. Deepak led Canaan’s early investment in DoubleClick, the Internet’s first and leading online advertising solution; Match.com, the most popular dating site worldwide; and BharatMatrimony, the world’s number-one online matrimony site.
He also invested in voice-over-IP infrastructure company Acme Packet, which became one of the top-ten performing IPOs of 2006, and his recent IPO, SuccessFactors, is the leading company in human performance and talent management.
Before joining Canaan, Deepak gained 11 years of executive operating experience at growth companies in the telecommunications, computer and software industries. He was a key member of the startup team at Aspect Communications, helping lead the pioneer in call center technologies to a successful IPO in 1990, and has also held leadership roles at telecommunications companies like ROLM Corp. and TRW Datacomm International. Deepak received a BA from Carleton University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
David Lilly, Founder and Chief Operating Officer
David Lilly is Co-Founder and COO of GroundWork, bringing more than 30 years of engineering and management experience. Prior to founding GroundWork, Lilly co-founded SiteROCK, a provider of remote monitoring and IT management services, and CapTech Partners, a company formed to provide seed capital and consulting to promising technology ventures. Previously, Lilly co-founded software companies concerned with supply chain optimization, image processing, and industrial automation.
Lilly began his career in the United States Navy, where he qualified as Chief Engineer for naval nuclear propulsion plants. He also led two emergency engineering teams at Three Mile Island.
Lilly holds an MBA from Rutgers University and a B.S. in International Relations from the United States Naval Academy.
Tom Mawhinney, JAFCO
Tom Mawhinney joined JAFCO in 2003 as a general partner, bringing a 15-year background in the technology industry as both a venture capitalist and an operating executive. Although an experienced entrepreneur in the software sector, Tom has a wide range of technology investing experience and a very grounded view of the process of building great companies. At JAFCO, Tom is actively involved with The 41st Parameter, Aperto Networks, ClairMail, Conformia Software, Groundwork Open Source, Mimosa Systems, Neterion, Solidcore Systems, Voltage Security and Xambala. Prior investments while at JAFCO include Brion Technologies (acquired by ASML), DATAllegro (acquired by Microsoft), Infinera (INFN) and PostPath (acquired by Cisco Systems).
Before joining JAFCO Ventures, Tom was with Canaan Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm with $2 billion under management. Prior to joining Canaan, Tom co-founded and served as President and COO of North Systems, a venture-backed software company that he helped manage for five years. Tom first developed his skills as a technology investor and entrepreneur during the five years he spent with Summit Partners, a venture capital firm with over $6 billion under management today.
Prior investments Tom was involved with at Canaan and Summit include AmeriPath (PATH), HAHT Commerce (Global eXchange Services), IntelliQuest (IQST), Microbank Software (SunGard Data Systems), Pediatrix Medical Group (PDX), Powerwave Technologies (PWAV) and SteriGenics International (STER).
Tom received his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard College.
Robin Vasan, Mayfield
Robin Vasan's clear understanding of software technology served him well in his early career as an entrepreneur. As a Managing Director in the firm, he is applying these insights primarily to enterprise software, particularly in applications and infrastructure involving security and open source technologies. Robin currently serves on the boards of Centrify, Determina, Elemental Security, Global Logistics Technologies, GroundWork, Informance International, and True Demand, as well as leading the firm's investment in Webroot. Previously he served on the boards of webMethods (WEBM), Aether Systems (AETH) - acquirer of Riverbed Systems and Trigo Technologies which was acquired by IBM.
Prior to joining Mayfield in 1999, Robin was a founder and/or key member of several successful software start-ups including CATS Software, Infinity Financial Technology, acquired by SunGard (SDS), and Risk Management Solutions. Robin earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A.S. dual degree in Industrial Engineering and Economics from Stanford University.
