Capacity Options
GroundWork Monitor Professional can be extended by adding additional management servers that provide extra capacity, fail-over capabilities, specialized functions and support for distributed data centers.
These servers can be added to a GroundWork Monitor Professional setup at any time, either during initial deployment or at a later date.
Linux Child Server
- Adds processing capacity beyond the limits of a single system, or for distributed topologies, to GroundWork Monitor Professional.
- Reports to and is controlled by a Parent server.
- Maintains synchronization with Parent for initial and on-going configuration and operation.
Windows Child Server
- Provides agentless monitoring of Windows system via native WMI methods.
- Like the Linux Child server, adds capacity and distributed capabilities to GroundWork Monitor Professional.
- As with Linux Child servers, is controlled by, reports to, and synchronizes with a Parent server.
- Can be installed as Guest systems on top of VMware ESX.
Standby Server
- Provides active-passive failover capabilities to GroundWork Monitor Professional servers in mission critical environments.
- Automatically takes over management duties of a Primary server in the event a Primary goes down.
- Can be combined with any GroundWork Monitor Professional server, including parent and child servers.
- Availability monitored by the primary server, which will notify if the Standby server is down.
- Gracefully returns control to the Primary server when it returns to normal operations.
Distributed Monitoring Agents
- Alternative to Linux Child servers for Unix and Linux monitoring in environments where distributed capabilities are needed, but extra processing power is not.
- Can report information directly to a Parent or Standby server.
- Controlled, configured, and updated by Parent server.
- Ideal solution for extremely distributed environments with many geographic locations, but few devices per location.
