Systems Support Engineer

GroundWork Open Source is a venture-backed software company offering enterprise-class IT management solutions based on open source software. The company has 50 employees and is based in San Francisco, CA.

GroundWork is seeking an experienced Systems Support Engineer to work with our technical support team as a customer support engineer for the support and services delivery side of the GroundWork business.

Responsibilities:

• Spend time with customers trouble shooting problems for GroundWork's monitoring solution
• Work as the technical liaison between Customers, QA and Engineering
• Troubleshoot customer implementation and operation issues
• Document case histories and solutions to common problems in knowledge base

Requirements:

• Multiple OS capable and experience with UNIX varieties
• 2+ years in system administration
• Familiar with perl, unix/linux shell scripting, tcp/ip and application support
• Open source experience, especially Nagios, is a real plus
• Network administrator capable and able to fix IOS, SNMP, LAN and WAN problems
• Knowledge of RHEL
• Significant experience on other Linux distributions, such as Debian and SuSE
• Programming background with Perl or similar language a plus
• Ability to diagnose process, thread, inter-process communication and networking issues with common tools
• Application experience with large scale applications like Citrix, Unicenter, Openview, Exchange, Oracle, SAP, etc.
• Familiarity with Apache, Java, and other web tools
• Software Engineering background, CS degree or EE preferred

Qualifications

• Well-versed with of most UNIX commands/utilities.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced software technical support environment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of conveying ideas and applying knowledge to challenging tasks. Open to new ideas and technologies, and wants to learn. Writing basic documentation. Works well in a team.
• Experience in Salesforce.com a plus
