Network Management Suite (NMS) Administrator Course

An advanced training course for GroundWork System Managers is now being offered online. This course is a thorough exploration of Network Management Suite's functionality with ample lab exercises so participants can install GroundWork and set up intricate monitors on a variety of devices.

Length: 2 days

Course Description

In this 2 day course we teach theory of operation, installation, configuration and maintenance on the four components of the GroundWork network management suite.

  1. Traffic Graphing Module (Cacti)
  2. Network Discover Module (NeDi)
  3. Protocol Analysis Module (Ntop)
  4. Network Map Module (Network Weathermap)

A detailed examination of the operation of each component follows with investigation of the code, databases, and directory structure so that the student understands how each tool works alone, how it interacts with the monitored infrastructure and how it contributes to the GroundWork Monitor Enterprise solution.

At the end of this course attendees will have an understanding of these four Open Source Projects as they relate to the GroundWork Monitor Enterprise and to monitoring in general. Upon successful completion attendees should be able to install the suite on their own and configure monitoring of a typical network. They will know the requirements for a proper installation and they will know where to seek answers to more challenging deployments.

Prerequisites

Prior enrollment in GroundWork’s System Administrator Course is required. In addition, our students should have an understanding of UNIX or Linux which permits the participant to concentrate on the core content of the training.

Who Should Attend?

Course attendants are typically anyone who is responsible for the installation, configuration, or maintenance of the GroundWork Monitor Enterprise product. The training is designed for the Network Engineer/Administrator who is already familiar with networking concepts such as IP addressing, routing, and L2 switching.
