Leader of open source IT management solutions provider taps proven enterprise software executive to steer future growth

_h2>For Immediate Release

Emeryville, CA—July 25, 2005—GroundWork Open Source Solutions, Inc., a leader in open source-based IT management solutions, announced that it has named Ranga Rangachari as President and CEO. Rangachari brings more than 20 years of sales and management experience from leading enterprise software companies including Invio Software and Legato Systems. GroundWork develops, integrates and enhances best-of-breed open source software to deliver comprehensive open source IT monitoring solutions that improve IT infrastructure availability and performance—at a fraction of the cost of commercial software.

“Massive change is taking place in enterprise software with an increasing number of companies turning to open source as a more flexible and affordable alternative,” said Ranga Rangachari, CEO of GroundWork. “GroundWork represents an opportunity to completely redefine the economics of how companies deploy and manage IT management solutions and I’m excited to be part of this evolution.”

Prior to joining GroundWork, Rangachari was CEO and founder of Invio Software, a leading provider of software to automate and control enterprise data storage operations. Invio’s leading edge technology was licensed by enterprise software vendors including BMC Software and Veritas Software. The company was acquired by Veritas in July 2004 and is an integral part of Veritas’ Utility Computing Strategy. Previously, Rangachari spent 11 years at Legato Systems, a leader in enterprise storage management acquired by EMC in 2003.  During his 11 year tenure, Rangachari held various senior management positions in sales, product management and strategic planning. As Vice President and General Manager of Intercontinental Sales, Rangachari increased Legato Systems’ revenue from Asia Pacific, Japan and Latin America by 300 percent in just eight quarters.

“We wanted a CEO with a demonstrated record of building profitable companies and a vision for the future of open source IT management. Ranga brings both of these attributes—in spades,” said Robin Vasan, Managing Director of Mayfield, one of Groundwork’s investors.

“In addition to having a proven track record in building successful enterprise software companies, Ranga also brings a passion for an open source approach to IT management and a leadership style that is consistent with GroundWork’s company values,” said Robert Fanini, GroundWork’s co-founder and former CEO, who will continue with the company focusing on market and business development activities. “We took our time to find the perfect CEO for GroundWork and we found him in Ranga.”
