Network Monitoring With Nagios

Press Release

GroundWork Open Source Developer Releases Network Monitoring with Nagios via O'Reilly Media

Taylor Dondich provides a "how-to" guide for the popular network monitoring program

San Francisco, CA — December 5, 2006 GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (www.groundworkopensource.com), the leader in open source-based IT operations management, today announced that senior developer Taylor Dondich has released a book, Network Monitoring with Nagios, through O'Reilly Media, the leading publisher of open source publications. Dondich's book is a guide for installing, using, and extending the functionality of Nagios® (http://nagios.org), a popular open source, host, service, and network-monitoring program.

Nagios helps streamline network-monitoring tasks while reducing the cost of operation. According to the Nagios project site, Nagios is currently in use monitoring more than 891,000 services and 195,000 hosts worldwide.

"Nagios is an extremely useful tool for cost-effective network monitoring, but a lot of people don't know how to use it effectively," said Dondich. "Since the book covers a range of topics that are geared towards both the new user and those who want to take Nagios a step further, I'm hoping that it will allow more people to start taking advantage of the project to monitor and problem-solve in their IT environment."

Dondich is the lead developer for Guava, an open source PHP-based Portal Framework developed to facilitate multi-language web applications, to provide transparent AJAX/Web 2.0 facilities, and to provide tools to expedite PHP-based web application development. He is also the author of Fruity, an open source web-based configuration tool for the Nagios network monitoring system, and Status Viewer, a PHP-based drop-in replacement for the Nagios Web interface.

Groundwork Open Source melds more than 180 open source projects -- including Nagios -- into a comprehensive fully supported IT infrastructure and networking monitoring solution.

Network Monitoring with Nagios is 56 pages and is available for download in PDF form for $9.99 at http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/networknagios/index.html.
