GroundWork Open Source Appoints Tara Spalding as Vice President of Marketing

Marketing pioneer in commercial open source software sees GroundWork as the major disrupter of legacy systems management vendors in the enterprise

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—January 23, 2008—GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (www.groundworkopensource.com), the leader in open source systems and network management software, today announced the appointment of Tara Spalding as Vice President of Marketing.

Spalding comes to GroundWork from SugarCRM, the leading commercial open source Customer Relationship Management solution, where she held the title of Vice President of Corporate Marketing – and the distinction of being the company’s first employee.

"I'm convinced GroundWor's model of integrating best of breed open source projects into a comprehensive IT infrastructure and network monitoring platform – to free enterprise customers from legacy vendor lock-in — is a major market opportunity and the next big industry vertical to be conquered by the compelling benefits of open source software's value proposition," said Spalding. “2008 will be an exciting time for GroundWork as we continue to show the disruptive power of open source in the enterprise environment."

GroundWork unifies the world's leading open source IT management projects to deliver enterprise-class IT systems and network management solutions at a fraction of the cost of legacy frameworks like HP OpenView.

"Tara's ability to effectively market commercial open source is validated by one word – SugarCRM," said Robin Vasan, Managing Director at Mayfield. "Tara’s unique talent and experience will take GroundWork Open Source to the next level of growth."

Prior to her work at SugarCRM, Tara specialized in online promotions, lead generation and web site design and usability with E.piphany and Edify. She started her marketing career in the California wine industry.
