Gartner Hype Cycle For IT Operations Management

Press Release

Commercial Open Source Leader GroundWork Open Source Included in Leading Industry Analyst Firm’s Hype Cycle for IT Operations Management

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — August 18, 2009—GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (GWOS http://www.gwos.com), the leader in commercial open source systems and network management software, today announced that Gartner, Inc., the leading provider of research and analysis on the global IT industry, included GWOS as a sample vendor in the Gartner Hype Cycle for IT Operations Management (i). GroundWork was referenced in both the Open-Source Service Management Tools and IT Event Correlation and Analysis Tools categories.

“We believe GWOS’s inclusion in the Hype Cycle and recent recognition in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant is further proof that open source software is establishing itself as a viable alternative to proprietary vendors in the management space,” said Peter Jackson, CEO of GWOS. “With data centers becoming more virtualized and larger enterprises exploring the cloud, we see open source software playing an important role in the more diverse and complex environments in the future.”

According to Gartner, “Open-source service management products have been available for several years, supporting a variety of IT requirements. Increasingly, many organizations are beginning to use the tools in mission-critical environments because their functionality continues to improve, and standardized support and maintenance contracts have become more widely available. The pressure to reduce IT costs is also prompting increasing interest in these products."

The study continues to state, “Open-source service management products can, in many cases, dramatically reduce your IT service and operations management spending in license revenue and associated maintenance."
