GroundWork Addresses Enterprise Demand with New IT Systems and Network Management Products

Most popular commercial open source systems and network management solution used by global giants Siemens, MobiTV, and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.— March 25, 2008 GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (www.groundworkopensource.com), the leader in commercial open source systems and network management software, announced today the launch of GroundWork Monitor Enterprise, a new addition to the GroundWork product family, and the general availability of GroundWork Monitor version 5.2, the latest major release to the entire family.

In 2007, GroundWork saw customers with distributed, enterprise-class deployments increase to nearly 60% of subscription revenue, with nearly a third of GroundWork's subscriber base upgrading to enterprise-class subscriptions. GroundWork Monitor Enterprise, created as a direct response to customers’ demand for high capacity monitoring solution, provides a level of extensibility and scalability not found in open source systems and network monitoring and management solutions available today.

GroundWork customers, the largest of whom are monitoring tens of thousands of devices across geographically dispersed locations, are the driving force behind GroundWork Monitor Enterprise. GroundWork Monitor Enterprise’s modular design is specifically built for distributed, high capacity, highly available environments. With the release of GroundWork Monitor 5.2, distributed monitoring throughput has improved by a factor of 2x, resulting in increased system capacity.

"Our expanding base of Global 2000 customers is proof that enterprises are choosing GroundWork over the Big 4 alternatives,” said David Lilly, founder and CEO of GroundWork Open Source. “An average cost savings of around 80% is a huge factor, but enterprise customers are selecting GroundWork because our open source solutions integrate seamlessly with existing systems like Windows, AIX, Tivoli, OpenView, NetIQ and many more. And, they appreciate GroundWork’s ability to scale to more than 10,000 servers across distributed locations worldwide.”

As top tier analyst firms predict a slowdown in 2008 IT spending, open source solutions like GroundWork Monitor Enterprise are seeing faster adoption as the alternative to expensive proprietary system management offerings from the Big 4 (HP OpenView, IBM Tivoli, CA Unicenter, BMC Patrol). “With economic uncertainty building on IT organizations, we are seeing enterprises tightening their belts when it comes to IT budgets and initiatives,” said Stephen Elliot, Research Director for IDC's Enterprise Systems Management Software Service. “As open source management solutions continue to mature and increase in functionality, they will see more opportunities on the enterprise scale.”

GroundWork’s expanded product family coincides with release 5.2 of GroundWork Monitor. This release includes new features such as auto-discovery/auto-configuration; a high speed, low latency event console; new enterprise performance reports, and updates to the dashboard functionality. Additionally, more than 50 user-requested enhancements and contributions have been included. The product family now includes three distinct offerings:
