GroundWork Monitor Open Source Now Available for Ubuntu

Industry-leading open source systems and network management software now supports Ubuntu and Linux systems using Debian packages

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.—November 7, 2007——GroundWork Open Source, Inc. (www.groundworkopensource.com), the leader in open source systems and network management software, today announced the general availability of GroundWork Monitor Open Source IT monitoring solution for Ubuntu and other Linux distributions based on the Debian installation system. Ubuntu is a widely used version of Linux that is freely downloadable from the Internet and available on Dell Inspiron PCs in European countries including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

“GroundWork combines the backing of a commercial software company with the strength of the open source community and is responding to the strong demand for the GroundWork IT monitoring solutions for Ubuntu and other Debian-based Linux systems,” said Peter Mui, community director for GroundWork. “Ubuntu is an extremely popular Linux distribution and it is natural for us to make GroundWork Monitor Open Source available on that platform.”

GroundWork Monitor Open Source is now freely available as a “.deb” install package. The Ubuntu version has the same features that make GroundWork the leading IT monitoring package on Red Hat, SuSE, CentOS, and VMware. Nagios and RRDtool are distributed with GroundWork Monitor Open Source and are unified into a framework that allows easy integration with other tools such as Cacti, NeDi, and Weathermap.

Support for installation, configuration and deployment of the new version of GroundWork Monitor Open Source is available through community forums. “Our vision is for Ubuntu users and all Debian users to have access to high quality IT monitoring comparable to proprietary systems costing hundreds of thousands of dollars,” added Mui.

The new version of GroundWork Monitor Open Source was built and tested on Ubuntu Server 6.06 LTS. The product should install on other Debian-based systems with little or no modification.
